Interview tips
The best way to ace an interview is to do a little prep work. The following are tips and tricks to help you make a great impression on your interviewer.
Prior to interview (virtual, phone, in-person)
Research the company and company associates with whom you will be interviewing
Review job posting/job description
Select interview attire – plan to dress business professional (for onsite or virtual interviews)
If a phone or virtual interview:
Plan to be in a quiet space with an adequate internet connection, your resume, and the job description for reference
If an on-site interview:
Prepare interview portfolio with the most recent copy of resume and a notepad to take notes
Plan for travel time – expect traffic and plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early
During the interview
Display professionalism
Firm handshake
Eye contact
Silence cell phone
Take pauses as needed to develop an articulate response
Take notes and ask questions about the team and position for which you are interviewing
Request business cards/contact info at the end of the interview
Sell yourself – highlight relevant experience, why you are interested in the company, and position
Speak on your strengths and long-term career goals
Most importantly, be yourself - we want to meet the real you!
If it is a virtual interview:
Treat it like a formal on-site interview in terms of preparation and presentation
Be mindful of background appearance and noise
Looks at the camera and maintain eye contact
Test technology/install any necessary tools prior to the interview
After the interview
Send a thank-you note and follow up regarding interest and status of open position as needed
Reflect on your responses in the event additional interviews are conducted
